Rebuild Uttarakhand

In 2013, a major flash flood happened in India's mountain state Uttarakhand killing over 10,000 people. Oxfam India and SEEDS India commissioned him to document the crisis for communications and fundraising requirements.

A year later in 2014, Oxfam India sent De on a three-week assignment travelling through various districts of Uttarakhand doing portraits and interviews of the people he had photographed in 2013, but to also document Oxfam India’s agricultural intervention to promote sustainable livelihoods, and aid in recovery.

This led to a series of exhibitions produced by Oxfam India across Delhi and Gurgaon, India. The video is a documentation of one of those exhibitions.

This video documents Sharbendu De's photography exhibition on Uttarakhand flash floods showcasing his two-year work on the disaster and it's effect on the people. Commissioned by Oxfam India, the exhibition was held in July 2014 at Select Citywalk, a prominent lifestyle mall in New Delhi, as a strategy to directly reach out to more people and garner support for Oxfam India's ongoing humanitarian response in the State of Uttarakhand.
